Frequently asked questions.
-
Bayside Dermatology does not require a referral; however, a referral may be required by your insurance company. If you are unsure, we recommend that you call the number on your insurance card to find out if a referral is required by your plan.
-
We know that schedules and circumstances change. If you need to reschedule your appointment, kindly provide at least 24-hours notice.
-
There is a $40 no-show fee if you miss an appointment or do not provide at least 24-hour notice when canceling/rescheduling an appointment. This has been implemented to reduce no-shows and ensure that we can provide dermatology access to as many patients as possible.
-
Please bring your driver’s license AND insurance card with you to each visit.
-
In an effort to be as paperless as possible, we have adopted a tablet-based check-in process. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete the check-in process.
-
The cost of an office visit depends on your insurance plan, deductible status, complexity of conditions addressed, and any procedures performed. We strive to be as transparent as possible and are happy to provide a good faith estimate at your request.
-
You are responsible for your co-pay at the time of your visit.
In addition, if you have not yet met your deductible, you are responsible for the full cost of your visit. We collect your portion at the time of your visit and submit a claim to your insurance company so your payment counts towards your deductible. If there are any insurance adjustments, you will receive a statement or refund.

We are currently not accepting Medicaid/Apple health. See our insurance page for an updated listing of our current contracts.

We are currently focusing exclusively on medical/surgical dermatology. While we do offer limited removal of benign skin lesions (e.g., moles, skin tags, etc), we are not offering laser treatments, botox, filler, or chemical peels.

Biopsy specimens are sent to Avero Diagnostics for processing. They cut the piece of skin, put it on a slide, and stain it so it can be viewed under the microscope. They then send the slides to our office (Bayside Dermatology) for a diagnosis to be rendered by Dr. Hoyt, who is Board-Certified in Dermatopatholgy. So if you have a biopsy, you will receive a bill from Avero Diagnostics and Bayside Dermatology for the processing and diagnosis, respectively.

Some insurance plans cover preventative services at 100%. This is generally for routine screening by primary care physicians. As a specialty clinic, we do not bill “preventative visits.”
